Happy Mother's Day!!

With the lovely weather we had most of this week (although not this weekend), the fields started to dry out and we were able to do some more planting. This week we planted green beans, yellow wax beans, Hocavare (French) green beans, Romano (Italian) green beans, purple beans, lima beans, white sweet corn, bicolor sweet corn, yellow popcorn and ornamental Indian corn.

And despite the large quantity of rain, the following are up in the field: snap peas, snow peas, sugar peas, white bunching onions, purple bunching onions and spinach.

We have a number of varieties of greens sprouting in the greenhouses, which hopefully will be ready to go out in the field in a couple of weeks.

What's new in the fields this week? We planted more snap peas, snow peas and sugar peas this week along with parsnips, purple and white bunching onions and spinach. When it dries out a smidge, I'll get some pictures of the new plants in the field.

2 weeks to market!!

What's growing in the greenhouses? Lots of flowering baskets of Geraniums, Double Impatiens and assorted mixed baskets. We also have flats of flowers and lots of herbs growing.

What's in the field? Last week we planted regular peas, snow peas, sugar snap peas, carrots, bunching onions and spinach. This week has been rather wet, but hopefully we can get into the field on Sunday to plant more peas, carrots, bunching onions, spinach and parsnips.

When will we be at Market? We will be at the Ann Arbor Kerrytown Farmer's Market on Saturdays beginning May 4, 2013 (7 am to 3 pm) and at the Howell Farmer's Market on Sundays beginning May 5, 2013 (9 am to 2 pm).

The 2013 applications are now on the forms page as well as the 2013 CSA page and the receipe page has been completely updated. Rather than just listing the recipes by name, they are now grouped by the primary vegetables (ones that we grow). So if a recipe has jalapenos, cilantro and tomatoes in it, you will find the recipe under hot peppers, herbs and tomatoes.

Happy New Year!!

Our last market day for Christmas greens was December 23. We've had a few weeks of down time, but the first shipment of plant plugs came in a couple of days ago; some lovely geraniums and New Guinea impatients. So we're beginning to plant for the spring season.

We hope that your holidays were good. From time to time, we'll be updating on our progress in the greenhouses, so come back every couple of weeks to see how we're doing!
